Water being the most common and basic substance found in the nature is directly related with all the living organisms and carries almost the same importance as that .of the Oxygen. The water after use is generally disposed easily in the rivers and therefore pollution is observed in the rivers especially in the vicinity of big cities, which have large populations and prolific industrialisation. The disposal of municipal, sewage and industrial waste'with little or no treatment into the rivers, makes the system heavily polluted, which is often unable to purify by its own assimilative capacity. The present study involves (1) The study of the conservative hydrochemical characteristics for surface as well as ground water from the Upper Hindon River basin by convention-al methods like Piper trilinear diagram, Stifff diagram etc. and by principal component analysis using computer programme . also (2) The development of a DO—BOD relationship (i.e. Water Quality Model for non conservative substances) for multiphased data (i.e. for different seasons) in a selected stretch of Upper Hindon River using a computer programme named DOSING I quality routing model. The data are taken from the work under a research project entitled hydrological aspects of Waste Disposal in Upper Hindon River Basin, U.P. sponsored by Department of Environment, (Govt. of India) and being carried out at University of Roorkee, Rocrkee. The above stated analysis will reflect the contribution of organic matter and toxic metals released with the effluents discharged from the various industries into the Hindon aver System within the study area.en_US
