Abstract: Water Resources Systems are generally characterised by their long service life, nearly inflexibilities of planning parameters and inherient uncertainties of operating environments. These involve large scale permanent physical changes in the environment and often require a multi disci-plinary approach. The enormous capital investment is to be examined under severe budgetary constraints. The decision on the main planning parameters should attempt the best perfor-mance over the unknown realisation of the inputs. Optimisation techniques, based on mathematical progra-mming algorithms, are powerful tools capable of providing solutions to the innumerable problems which engineers and planners face while planning the complex water resources systems.
