Abstract: The multipurpose Manibhadra Dam Project is proposed to be constructed at the downstream reach of river Mahanadi to control the flood havoc at its lower reaches. The gross capacity of the reservoir is 840.0 TH M, out of which a flood storage of 406.0 'THMA is kept vacant for the three flood months from July to September. Besides, it will generate power with installed capacity of 960 MW and irrigate an area of 682000 Ha. of CCA. In the present study _ linear programming-cum-simulation model coupled with reservoir operation study have been carried out to formulate a set of rule curves to obtain the greatest value of benefit from storage capacity. Linear programming model helps to regulate the monthly flows and thus specify i the targets for flood control, irrigation, energy and water supply releases. These figures are further modified and refined by simula-tion, so that 75% dependability for irrigation, 90% dependability for energy and 100% dependability for water supply targets are achieved. To find out the possibility of any increase in the conservation storage of the reser-voir, a 100 year frequency flood have been routed from 9 different elevations starting with the existing fall. reservoir level o 82.3 r: per the operation policy, Outflow from the reservoir is decided on the basis of slab releases. All the pertinent calculations have been carried out on DEC-20 computer of Roorkee University Regional Computer Centre.
