Abstract: | With the spread of wireless internet and continued dramatic increase in demand for all types of advanced wireless multimedia services, the wireless personal communicator today has become as common as the wire line telephone used to be, and it provides reliable and affordable communication, anytime and anywhere. Portable computers can provide a vast array of wireless services, such as voice, data and video communications, television programs on demand and unlimited access to the treasures of cyberspace. Such applications require quality of service of unprecedented levels, which implies that data rates required are huge. Traditional systems can not provide such kind of data rates. MIMO systems provide an effective solution for achieving higher data rates under the premise that a rich scattering environment provides independent paths between the transmitter and the receiver. But in order to evaluate the performance of MIMO channels, realistic channel models are required. In this thesis work, statistical space-time model and basis expansion models have been proposed for obtaining the channel matrix for MIMO systems under various conditions. Then the performance of STBCs has been evaluated over MIMO systems under different conditions for a frequency non-selective channel |
