dc.description.abstractRamganga Project is a multipurpose storage scheme, providing irrigation, power and flood control benefits to vast areas of Ganga Yamuna Doab, of the State of Uttar Pradesh. In view of the conflicting requirements of flood control and con-servation objectives, an in depth study has been undertaken in this dissertation, to lay down policies for their optimal regu-lation, both during the monsoon and non—monsoon seasons. The filling schedules have been proposed, to provide for a gradual filling of the reservoir to normal reservoir level and at the same time, adequate flood space is made available to absorb the flood, during the monsoon season. The slab system of releases for the flood regulation has been proposed. The regu-lation of Sept. 1978 flood with these release guides is studied and found to be quite effective. The structural safety of dam was cher•ked by regulating the P.M.F. and spillway design flood, through the reservoir. Flood modulation, with prior warnings of flood, is studied and found to be efficient. Reservoir operation study, for irrigation and power requirements are done taking the availability of water, keeping the M.D.D.L. at 323, 330, 335 and 340 M respectively. Rule curves for 100%, 90%, 85% and 60% irrigation and power targets are drawn. Yearly tarf,ets of irrigation and power requirements can be fixed by knowing the reservoir level by the end of filling season.en_US
