dc.description.abstractThe snow melt run off model developed by Martine. and Rango was adopted for the present study. The model computes the snow melt by degree day method employing mean temperature. Rainfall is added to the melt water to compute total water availability. The available watir is transformed to runoff by multiplying it with a runoff coefficient. The time laq between the generation of water on catchment (i.e. snow melt and rainfall) and its subsequent availability as streamflow is aecounted for by a recession coefficient. The model his been modified by incorporating- Different forms of the snow cover depletion equations, the variable melt rite fa.tor (increasing linearly with accumulated degree days), di erect functional forms of the temperature index and differential runoff and r'cession coefficients for snow covered and bare are-s. In addition to these features the model has been linked to a nonlinear optimisation routine for parameter estimation. The published ate data of a small catchment Dischma (43.3Km2) in switzerland have been utilised for the study.en_US
