Ground water is a parmancnt source of water which is replenished through rainfall. Over exploitation of this re. sources may cause undesirable effects like land subsidence, salt water intrusion in coastal areas, lowering down of water table result in failure of large number shallow tube.. wells etc. For correct evaluation and assessment of ground water resources and to solve water budgeting problem, it is necessary to study the behaviour of the ground water system. Ground '."later modelling is a tool by which we can study the behaviour of the system as well as predict the response of the aquifer to a known excitation. i► portion of Bnnaras district in the State of Uttar Pradesh has been ta'icen for conducting the study to develop a Mathematical Distributed Model for aquifer response by using finite difference approximation approach. The area under study comprising of eight blocks is lying in a basin surrounded by the river Baruna and Ganga. For calibration of the aquifer and hydrologic properties, subjective optimisation technique has boon adoptee' with the help of digital computor. The study for calibration of the model has boon carried out considering data for 36 months.en_US
