dc.description.abstractThe Town, Barg. and Nariadasa;ar are the most important projects under construction, at present, armloncst the projects proposed in the Master Plan for development of water resources of the Narmada in Madhya Pradesh. Since, the projects are designed to cater to conflicting interests of flood control and conservatory functions, ticklish pro- biems in their operation are anticipated. To account for the interactions of reservoirs due to their configurations in the system, joint regulation study of the system as a whole has been attempted in this dissertation. The compromising filling, schedules have been pro« posed for each reservoir to ensure gradual filling of the reservoirs to their FRL and at the same time., adequate flood space is made available to absorb the floods during filling season, The balanced flood release guides have been pro.. posed. The regulation of the largest historical flood of September, 1970 with the aforesaid filling schedules and release guides is found to be safely moderated. Operation policies at different service levels for regulation of reservoirs during monsoon and nonraonsoon seasons have been evolved. It is seen that the Tawa and Narmadasagar could serve the targeted functions efficiently, whereas the storing capacity of the Bargi seems to be small.en_US
