dc.description.abstractIn our country self recording raingauge stations are limited. Long term hourly rainfall data are, therefore, not available for most of the areas where self recording raingauges are non existant.. However, long term daily rainfall data are available. Time distribution study of rain storms can produce a way for distributing daily rainfall amounting to hourly values for hydrometeorologically similar areas. Time distribution studies can be done with historical hourly data as also with synthetically generated data. Synthetically generated data gives opperttinity for study in larger perspeoitive as length of data and numbers of samples can be choosen as per necessity'_. Synthetically generated data gives many equally likely alternative samples, where as historical data is just one such sample which will not repeat as such. Synthetic generation of time series of storm rainfall data including dry periods is useful for generation of time series of runoff for flood frequency analysis, yield studies etc. The basic objectives of this study are, (1) to develop a computer methodology to generate synthetic rainstorms with their time distribution. (2) to study the time distribution features of the historical storm rainfall data as also generated storm rainfall data and to compare them.en_US
