Abstract: Water is one of the most imprtant natural resources on earth, sometimes rarely available. In the context of even increasing need for water, acute need arises for explioting the available water resource in the best possible manner through improved operational policies. Linear programming, dynamic programming or simulation appro-aches are used to bring out solutions to the problems of reservoir operations. But vary little information is available on the perfor-mance of these method where irrigation requirement is to %et with-out any problems. Of course this depends mainly on the availability of water at the end of I~abi season and spills. The multiple linear say regressed monthly operation technique formulated,,Bor Irrigation project in Maharastra State has been experimented here as a reser-voir operation policy specially to meet irrigation requirement during hot season period which is mainly problems to the farmers. The flow data available at the reservoir is of very short period for 10 years. Computations and analysis have been carried out at the noorkee University Regional Computer Centre, Roorkee as well as hand computations. Ten years of hostorical data was found too short for develop- ing regressed equations and for operation. Thomas-I{'ering model was used to generate 50 years of streamflows. These flows were used further for the study.
