DAHA GROUNDWATER BASIN
FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
|Abstract:||Daha ground water basin is situated in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts of U.P. bounded by river Hindon in the east and river griahni in the West. There is no surface irrigation facility in the doab and due to excessive drawal of ground water for irrigation purposes the general water table is lowering day by day. Extend of possible drawdown in different drafting pattern and effect of a known artificial recharge pattern is required to b.e evaluated. For the purpose an effort has been made to simulate a finite element model for the basin. From the pump test data the aquifer constants storage coefficient and transmissibility are computed. A groundwater balance has been done for the basin from which the recharge due to rainfall is found to be 22 percent of the total. rainfall • The basin is then divided into 329 elements of square size of 1014 m. The size of element is selected to be 1014 m as the same grid is used in another study using finite difference model and the intension was: to compare the results. The net pumpage value from the water balance, is distributed among the mo the and among the nodes. Boundary nodes got a weightage of 0.5. The ground water inflow and outflow through the boundary has been suitably distributed among the boundary nodes and these are converted to vertical recharge or discharge values. The boundary has been assumed on a no flow (barrier) boundary.|
