dc.description.abstractThe vast and or desert lands of world totals to one-fourth of the world's land surface. Many deserts of the world are still taking over the disastrous grip to the neighbouring land. Before the desert monster encroach into the fertile land and thereby creating acute shortage of crying need for producing food enouhg to support the present and future livestock it is a problem to hydrometeorologists and research workers to know the insight of causes, develop-ments and extension of aridity characteristics of climatic spectrum prevailing over such areas are well to be understood. The present study deals with the analytic study of drought, shift of climatic spectrum and water balance of the North- West India which constitute the 90% of the total arid zone of India. The present study also encovers the analysis of yearly variation in the rainfall with the latest and sophisticated techniques like corrologram, periodogram,variance spectrum analysis to detect the persistance, periodicity and significant harmonic and subharmonic cycles if present.en_US
