Abstract: The present dissertation represents a design methodology for retraction mechanism of tricycle landing gear subjected to dynamic forces. The design of retractable type tricycle landing gear includes its layout, kinematic synthesis and analysis, inverse dynamics and quasistatic analysis for determination of strength. Layout study has been done to determine wheelbase and track of a tricycle gear for a particular class of aircraft. The kinematic synthesis of retraction mechanism is carried out to determine the links length as per kinematic requirements. Later the kinematic analysis is performed to find displacement, velocity and acceleration of moving links. Inverse dynamics is performed by using matrix method of kineto-static analysis to determine joint forces and input torque required to run the mechanism. Finally, quasistatic analysis has been carried out by using finite element method to estimate shape and size of moving links under the constraints of lateral deflection and bending stress. For the above design and analysis, general purpose programming tool like Matlab/Simulink and Ansys are used. Thus the design of various links is ascertained.
