Abstract: high quality wear resistant coatings. Of all these coating materials that can be sprayed on Stainless Steel by detonation spraying are WC-Co-Cr and Ni-Cr. 1002ET, 1004EN and 1006EE were sprayed on the Mild Steel by Flame spraying process Two testing machines Coriolis erosion wear testing machine and slurry pot tester were fabricated . WC-Co-Cr and Ni-Cr coated surfaces were tested for erosion resistance by Coriolis erosion wear testing machine and 1002ET(Nickel based Tungsten Carbide), 1004EN (Nickel and Chromium Eutectic alloy)and 1006EE (Cobalt and Nickel based Chromium Carbide)were tested by Slurry pot tester. Optical microscopy and SEM study were used for characterization. Coating qualities were discussed with respect to microhardness and microstructure. The erosion mechanisms of the different coating materials were also discussed
