Title: ESTABLISHMENT OF CORRELATION BETWEEN ULTRASOUND SIGNAL AND FLAW GEOMETRIES
Authors: Kumar, Praveen
Keywords: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING;ULTRASOUND SIGNAL;FLAW GEOMETRIES;WAVEFORM
Issue Date: 2004
Abstract: Ultrasound signals -provide -a means of examining, the internal structure of materials without obtrusive means. The high.- frequency sound- waves penetrate the surface of the material and reflect off impedance interfaces such as - crack or a foreign. substance..' The returned echoes _ provide a means of analyzing the internal structure without damaging, the material. In this work Time and frequency features of the reflected- ultrasound • waveform due to the presence of flaw in an object have been extracted which are further used to compare the features of the ultrasound waveform of known" geometry of the flaw to know location, size and geometry of the unknown flaw. -Some features establishing some, relationship between the ultrasound signal with flaw geometry(the size and angle of the flaw) is also determined.
