Abstract: Oximes are well defined crystalline solids known for more than hundred years which constitute a very important class of organic compounds. Oximes are weak acids having the pK ' s in the range a 10- 12 and also show a very weak basicity due to the inherent 2 Sp nitrogen. This is why oximes exhibit amphoteric nature yielding salts with both acids and bases. These salts are usually stable but occasionally decompose to the parent carbonyl compound and a mixture of inorganic compounds even when prote cted from air and light. Oximes undergo reduction to give primary amines. Electrolytic reduction at lead cathodes give a good yield of the corresponding oxime. General method of synthesis of oximes consists in carrying out the reaction between the carbonyl compound and hydroxyl amine under appropriate condition. The nature, rate of the reaction and yield are dependent on the conditions of the reaction and the method applied (1)................
