Abstract: The performance of a three-phase self excited induction generator using series capacitor for compensation has been investigated in this dissertation. Analytical models have been developed for each case, simple shunt, short shunt series compensated and long shunt series compensated induction generator. All these modes have been verified by taking experimental points from the past literature. Three machine parameters of different ratings have been taken and the computational analysis have been carried out for different values of series and shunt capacitance. The performance of simple, short and long shunt configurations have been compared which shows the superiority of the short shunt configuration with higher value of series capacitance, nearly three times the value of shunt capacitance. Relative performance of the three mode of operations and their relative merits and demerits have also been discussed in this thesis.
