This work studies the performance of various powder coatings (WC-Co, WC-Co-Cr, Cr3C2-NiCr, Stellite 6) on 21-4-N Nitronic steel (Nitrogen strengthened austenitic stainless steel) substrates when subjected to solid particle erosion conditions. The coatings tested have been deposited by detonation gun spray technique. Solid particle erosion tests were performed on these coatings with aluminum oxide abrasive of size about 300 micrometers. Differences in erosion behavior are studied with respect to microstructure, hardness, porosity and surface texture of each coating. The effect of coating thickness on erosion response of coating is also evaluated.en_US
