Abstract: The recorded representation of bioelectrical potentials generated by the neuronal activity of the brain is called the electroencephalogram (EEG).This recording has been found to be a particularly useful tool for studying the functional brain disturbances. This work briefly surveys the main properties of the EEG and points'out several influential factors. A number of different methods have been developed in last two decades for analysis of EEG signal in order to complement visual screening ;these are conveniently classified as being Time domain methods or Frequency domain methods. Once thought to be antagonistic,they deal with different qualities of the signal and may be seen as the complementary approaches.The time domain analysis methods include the real time amplitude analysis and the period analysis.The frequency domain analysis methods include the classical periodogram, classical Blackman and Tukey meth od;autoregressive, moving average, autoregressive-moving average modeling methods.The review and comparative study of all these methods is presented in this work.
