Abstract: Sloshing is basically the dynamic behaviour of liquid mainly due to. oscillations of free surface of liquid. It occurs in a container partially filled with liquid. In the present work, slosh behaviour of liquid in .a laterally excited rectangular container, which is mounted on rigid support, is studied. The study is carried out theoretically by using mechanical model. Overall force response with excitation frequency is determined and studied for the container without and with compartmentalization. The compartmentalization is done up to one, two, three and four compartments of different sizes. The better container model among all is identified. Further the effect of liquid depth and damping in the container on slosh force is also studied. From the results obtained it is concluded that, slosh force response is reduced by compartmentalization of container. The response is changed by changing liquid depth and also by changing the damping in the container. In general the force response is reduced by increased damping
