In power system operation , the system operator is concerned with the ability of the power system to serve the load demand in the presence of disturbance. In past the operators maintained reliable performance using their experience and on the spot assessment of system condition but due to the increased complexity of the power system ,now i t is beyond the operator's analytical ability to take decision under emergency operating conditions. Automatic contingency selection and analysis can help operator in decision making for efficient and proper operation of power system. In this work methods are developed for automatic contingency selection and analysis of single line and transformer outages. The methods developed are efficient both for computational time and memory requirement.en_US
