Abstract: Sloshing is the dynamic behaviour of liquid due to oscillation of its free surface in moving container. The sloshing of liquid in a circular container is studied experimentally. The container has flexible supports. The container is subjected to horizontal motion through a frame. The frame speed is changed so that the container is subjected to different excitation frequency. The container is mounted on load cell so that vertical forces coming on it can be measured. The damping in a liquid system is enhanced through ring shaped compartments for reducing the vertical forces. Different models of container are considered such as container with and without compartments. Containers with two and three compartments have been considered. It is found that vertical force generated due to sloshing is considerably less in containers with compartments as compared to the case without compartment. This is true for different aspect ratios i.e. -liquid depth to container radius
