This project report presents development of an expert system for selection of suitable welding parameters for sound welding of Titanium. Welding of Titanium is a quite complex subject and good decision making demands. understanding of issues such as selection of a suitable welding process and parameters, joint design, filler metal selection, possible defects and avoiding the same, shielding gases etc. For the development of this expert system commercial pure Titanium (ASTM Grade 1) have been considered. Thickness ranging from 0.2 — 12.5 mm and 25 mm are covered. Wherever welding process is GTAW (Gas Tungsten Are Welding). Relevant data has been collected from various sources such as international journal publications from libraries and interviewing experts in the fields. Results are verified by welding the same as far as possible. Individual database has been built using MS-ACCESS and the suitable data can be retrieved by the main module, which is developed using DELPHI (BORLAND). It has been found that the retrieval of the necessary data, which can help in making faster decision, is very effective and accurate. It is ' also possible to alter the data whenever it is required. Another part of this project is _ welding procedure evaluation using all possible combinations of cleaning, joint preparation and shielding gases for establishing the correct sequence of GTAW process.en_US
