Abstract: | For resisting earthquake forces, reinforced concrete structures need ductility in addition to strength. Ductility in addition RC structures can be obtained by proper detailing of critical regions. All the countries have provided certain guidelines for detailing of structures to achieve ductility. In the present study detailing provisions of IS: 13920 and ACI-318 have been evaluated experimentally. Two one bay one third scale models are prepared and tested under quasi-static test. In the 1st model detailed according to IS: 13920 provisions the longitudinal beam bars are provided with 90° bends in the beam column joints and the second model is provided with beam stubs. Cyclic loads at a frequency of 0.05 Hz are applied. Both the models achieved their calculated ultimate strength. The failure in both the models is by the failure of joints. The spalling of concrete in the joints of model 2 is less compared to model 1. The other structural members satisfied the requirements. But the behaviour of joints is not desirable. |
