Abstract: | Failure of rock slopes is generally controlled by structural discontinuities such as ,joints ,faults and bedding planes etc .Out of these, failure of slopes due to joints Is most important. Hence, the identification of this feature is also very important in the stability of slope. The current study,is undertaken to know the effect of thickness and roughness of joint materials of two bedding planes in a rock mass susceptible to sliding. The thickness of the layers considered are 0.25 cm, , 50 cm,1.00 cm and 2.00 cms.Three soil types viz sand,. silt and clay are chosen. The results of tilt table experiments are given in Table No. 2. The result as 'obtained from the tilt table experiments indicates that there is no effect of thickness on the soil layer on the tilt angle and thereby the yi ei d acceleration. Basing on the effect of the roughness of the soil on the tilt angle as observed in the tilt table experiments, and direct shear test it may be inferred that for silty soi 1 s ,the stability calculations 'can be done on the basis of the shear parameters obtained from the direct shear test. |
