Abstract: In this study an effort is made to compare various methods of solving dynamic equation of motion for a framed building by taking the effect of soil structure interaction into account. In all, three methods are chosen for study, two time domain methods and a frequency domain method for a earthquake type of random loading. In time domain one ex-plict and one implicit methods have been chosen amd various factors have been considered to know the superiority of one scheme over the other. In brief, error analysis and time of compuation have been compared. The detailed dynamic analysis have been performed in two ways i.e. by converting the equation of motion into modal coordinates and solving uncou-pled equations for five modes and, then exact analysis with-out conversion of equation of motion into modal coordinates have been performed to know the error of mode superposition. The modelling of soil have been done using half space theory. Five types of soil have been considered for the study. Kinetics and kinematics of the system have been compared for various types of soil.
