Abstract: A review of the analytical procedures used for dynamic soil- structure interaction and the methods employed for evaluating the pertinent soil-properties has been made. On the basis of the review it has been concluded that the substructure approach is the most appropriate one for analysis the dynamic soil-structure interaction in Nuclear Power Plants. The best method for evaluating the soil-parameter - The dynamic shear modulus - for use in the substructure approach, is the cross-bore-hole technique for low strains and appropriate laboratory tests for other strain levels. For initial dimensioning, however, the continuum approach, incorporating the value of dynamic shear modulus from the block-vibration test, mo:y be used. A method has been suggested for finding the value of the dynamic shear modulus, for the three principal modes of vihhation, namely, the Horizontol,Vertical and the Rotational modes.
