Soil structure interaction is a very important phenomenon which is principally effected by the dzechanis.m of energy exchange between the soil and the structure. Its primary influence on structures is to modify the natural period of vibration and hence response. Proximity of structures leads to a coupling through the soil media and further modifies response of systems when compared to their isolated responses. q In the present study the proximity effects have been studied for 2 storey and 10 storey, 4 storey and 10 storey, 6 storey and 10 storey, 8 storey and 10 storey buildings with raft foundation and soil structure interaction effects for two, four, six, eight and ten storey structures have also been studied_ I.n order to provide a parametric study three types of soils have been considered i.e. soft, nkedium and hard. Results obtained show that the effect of soil structure interaction increases with the increase in flexibility of the foundation soil. ,Results obtained for proximity effect: indicate that the dynamic behaviour will be changed due to the coupling effects between two buildings, when they stand close to each other. It is especially true when a small building is near to a tall one. .lit is observed that the effect; of the higher building on the adjacent lower one is relatively large; the effect of the lower building on the adjacent higher one is, however, relatively small.en_US
