Abstract: In the area of real time scheduling some work had been carried out but preventive maintenance schedule of machines, which is very important in any manufacturing system was not considered in any work. This present work provides a real time scheduling methodology including preventive maintenance schedule of machines, which is prepared in advance. An algorithm Re-Set Algorithm (RSA) has been developed. The system which is considered in this work is modeled by using Stochastic Petri Net (SPN). In the modeling five status of machine namely available, loaded, under preventive maintenance action, occupied and, failed status are considered. To simulate the Petri Net model a simulator in C++ language has been developed. The results obtained by RSA are better than the results obtained by a dispatching rule for mean flow time and makespan.
