Abstract: The rapid advances in information Technology (IT) have stimulated effective working of organizations by means of streamlining the flow of information and organizing the data in a structured manner. Information is one of the main resources apart from the conventional 4m's- man, machine, money and material available to the managers and need to be managed efficiently just as any of the other resources. The reasons for paying increasing attention to the information management are two fold- firstly, the increasing complexity of business environment and secondly, the computer has added one or more dimensions such as speed, accuracy, and increased volumes of data that allows the consideration of one or more alternatives in the decision-making and control. The real strength of information can be realized in an unorganized sector where there is no structured way of communication and flow of information. One of the best examples can be the paper industry. Here, though the forward chain may be utilizing the information management system up to some extent but there seems that the reverse supply chain lacks an organized approach in this respect. This activity increases the competitiveness and extends the market reach. Hence it is imperative to develop an information system for this sector.
