Abstract: | It is well recognized now that linear analysis overestimates the response and experience in past earthquakes shows that structures designed for small seismic forces have withstood major earthquake shocks without collapse. This is due to the fact that the structures. undergo the inelastic deformation and dissipate a great deal of energy.. In the present work, this ductile behaviour has been studied for a range of reinforced concrete structures with different percentage of steel in single and multistoreyed buildings The reduction factors at each story of multistorey buildings due to inelasticity of the structures has been worked out for various reinforced concrete building frames for El Centro and Koyna earthquakes, corresponding to different storey ductility factors In the buildings. These variations for single and multistoreyed building frames have been derived for various percentages of steel for uniform as well as tapered stiffness distribution.. |
