Abstract: Heterocyclic compounds have recently attracted attention in the chemical world on account of their importance as alkoloids, antibiotics, cell constituents, pigments, solvents, medicines, dye-stuff chelating agents, pesticides, herbicides, plastics etc. and also due to the vital role they play in biological processes. It has thus become imperative to undertake fundamen tal studies on the heterocyclic compounds containing amide linkages in 6 membered ring system like pyrimidinetetrone and pyrimidinetrione types. The chemistry of the compounds con taining the pyrimidine ring system has been extensively investigated in view of their close association with natural products. X-Ray studies on ^-amino-2, 6-dichloro-pyrimidine and 2-amino-*+, 6-dichloro pyrimidine reveal that the ring is not symmetrical and neither of the two C-C bond distances (1.1+0 and 1.35A°) approach the aliphatic C-C distance (1.51+A0). One is very close to the C-C distance (1.1+0A°) of Benzene and other is between this and the C-C distance (I.33A0) of ethylene ..................
