Emil Fischer paved the way for the preparation of hydrazones and osazones of sugars in the late nineteenth century. The theme for the subsequent study centered around preparat ion, reaction, characterisation and mechanism of formation of a large variety of other osazones. A survey into the literature however, reveals that only a limited amount of work has been done to prepare these compounds with variously substituted phenylhydrazines and practically nothing has been done to study the complex-forming properties of these crysta lline substances, inspite of the fact that they have congenial sites to form complexes with metals. ..............en_US
