Issue Date: 1983
Abstract: The work undertaken for the thesis is to carry out nonlinear analysis of gravity dams including foundation interaction. The dam and foundation has been treated as substructures. The flexibility of the foundation has been evaluated at the contact nodes by influence coefficients. 'XA&41-. we,d An incrementalk solution algorithm has been for static and dynamic analysis. The dam may undergo nonlinear deformation, where as the foundation is considered linear. Mohr—Coulomb yield criteria has been used to represent the yield surface of the mass masonry. Since masonry has very less strength in tension, the Mohr-Coulomb yield criteria allows for limited strength in tension. Static analysis is carried out to compare the results obtained considering base fixed and with foundation interaction. The stresses obtained at the base of the dam with and without interaction have been compared.
