Abstract: | Water towers are structures of post' earthquake importance and therefore need careful consideration while analysing and designing, especially under severe seismic conditions like towers in seismic zones IV and V. As an introduction the problem, damages suffered by water towers during past earthquakes have been discussed giving the causes of failure. The study mainly presents detailed economics of intze type reinforced concrete water towers of normal capacities from 90 kI to x+55 kI and heights of staging from 12 into 24 m, subjected to various lateral loads, viz, wind force with basic pressure 150 kg/m2 or seismic force in severe seismic zones IV and V. The effect on cost of tower, by using mild, steel diagonal braces in the staging of reinforced cement concrete towers has also been evaluated to highlight their beneficial use. Various quantities of materials alongwi th cost of various components have also been worked out to help designers and field engineers. 1Y |
