The more critical tensile stresses occur in the upper parts of the dams due to earthquakes. The extra concrete near the crest of the dam to support roadway etc., is found to be responsible for this. An attempt has been made to reduce crest mass by developing several light structural systems to support the roadway and perform other necessary functions. The dynamic response of the dam is calculated for different earthquakes by shear bending beam approach using Holzor',en_US
