Abstract: Abrasive flow machining process provides a high level of surface finish and close tolerances with an economically acceptable rate of surface generation for a wide range of industrial components. There is a lack of research studies particularly in the direction of theoretical modeling of AFM. In this dissertation work, a model is developed for the media flow using Finite Element Method approach. The software ANSYS has been employed for developing the model during the abrasive flow machining process and the same is used to evaluate the stresses and velocity distribution developed during the process. By using an available analytical model the effect of various parameters on material removal has been studied. The results were compared with experimental results. Also a finite element model is developed for the magnetic field assisted abrasive flow machining process. This model evaluates the magnetic field strength distribution. A theoretical model is proposed for drawing the path of magnetic abrasive particles using the magnetic force distribution and velocity distribution in the work piece during the machining process
