Abstract: | This study incorporates the research pertaining to the synthesis of hydroxyapatite with chemical method using orthophosphoric acid and its coating on titanium substrate to suit the application demands of orthopedic implant material. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method was used to deposit HAp and reinforced HAp thin films on Ti . substrates. Hydroxyapatite coatings suffer from poor mechanical properties like fretting fatigue, toughness and abrasive wear resistance, so it results problems when purely deposit on metallic substrate. Literature has proved that by reinforcing secondary materials like titania, zirconia, carbon nano tubes and alumina etc. the mechanical properties like young's modulus, adhesion strength, hardness and abrasive wear resistance can be improved. An attempt has been made to deposit pure & 10 wt.% (80A1203— 20TiO2) reinforced HAp by PLD Technique •on Ti substrate. The effect of reinforcement at different temperature was evaluated. The microstructure and composition of the films were determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis was conducted to find its effect on surface roughness and Ca/P ratio respectively. |
