In this work, dual phase steel were developed from plain low carbon (0.16%) steel by adapting thermo mechanical treatment route. Nine different types of thermo mechanical treatments were given to plain low carbon steel on thermo mechanical simulator (Gleeble 3800). The steels were deformed in compression in intercritical region and the effect of each processing parameter, viz, amount of strain introduced, strain rate and intercritical temperature in the dual phase region, were analyzed by varying one and keeping the other parameters constant. It was observed that on increasing the strain and the strain rate, grain refinement in ferrite was achieved along with decrease in martensite content. This resulted in increase in strength to ductility ratio. It was found that the strength of the developed DP steel increased significantly as compared to the normalized steel without any remarkable decrease in ductility.en_US
