The dissertation work is an approach to the development of antireflection (AR) coating on glass by exploiting the sol-gel based optical materials as the sol-gel processing can tune the refractive index and film thickness of the material very easily. Hence the work has been formulated through the development of individual layers leading to the AR effect of glass at any specific wavelength. Basically non-quarter wavelength optical thickness based optical design has been followed as it has very good impact in increasing the laser damage threshold property of the coatings. However I have worked on the development of porous and relatively dense silica and zirconia layers in the Sol-Gel Division of CGCRI. This work comprises of mainly four parts: General introduction, Preparation and characterization of silica layer, Preparation and characterization of zirconia layer and Preparation and characterization of antireflection (AR) coating on glass. have been included in this The report based on the above work is being submitted for the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree Master of Technology in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India.en_US
