The selenocyanate ion just like cyanate and thiocyanate ion belong to the class of compounds known as pseudohalides. They have the general formula NCX~(X = 0,S,Se, or Te) and they are all ambident ate, that is, they can form a coordinate bond to a Lewis acid through either N or X. Thus, the thiocyanate ion, mm, e.g., will form either N-or S-bonded complexes depending on the nature of metal, or the presence of other ligand or whether the complex is in solid state or in solution. Similarly selenocyanate ion will form either Nor Se- bonded complexes depending on the conditions outlined for thiocyanate ion. Both these ions are also present in variety of bridging modes.................en_US
