dc.description.abstractIn this dissertation pure commercial aluminium was subjected to microstructural modification using friction stir processing. And its effect on hardness was studied. Axial load and transverse speed are the two processing parameter_ selected to study keeping rotational speed constant. Axial load used for processing are 50, 100 and 200 Kg at constant transverse speed of 0.275cm/sec. Transverse speed selected at constant load of 100 Kg are 0.275cm/sec,0.366cm/sec,0.600cm/sec. It was found that by increase in axial load, hardness of nugget zone increases and then decreases. Hardness of nugget zone was found to be maximum for processing at 100 Kg axial load. Similarly for transverse speed the hardness first increased with increase in transverse speed then decreased. Hardness in the nugget zone was found to be maximum for the processing at transverse speed of 0.366cm/sec.en_US
