It is quite usual in the manufacturing of hole-entry hybrid journal bearings, to form small holes at the outlet of bearing restrictors. The size and number of these holes directly affect the bearing performance. From the literature review it has been found that only the static performance characteristics of hole entry hybrid journal bearings have been studied by Yoshimoto et. al., but no work yet has been done to study the possible effect of hole size, on the dynamic performance characteristics of hole-entry hybrid journal bearings. Thus the objective of the present study is to theoretically investigate the effect of hole size on the dynamic performance characteristics of hole-entry hybrid journal bearings, having capillary type restrictor as the compensating element. Finite element method has been used to solve the Reynold's equation. Based on the analysis a computer program has been developed and the performance characteristics are computed for symmetric as well as asymmetric configuration. The results are presented in tabular and graphical form and at the end few conclusions are drawn from the results obtaineden_US
