Surface modification of steel shall be carried out by autogenous TIG arcing at different heat input and weld thermal cycle resulting from verifying welding parameters. Pulsed GTA process is gaining wider acceptance because of improves physical and mechanical characteristic achieved through it. In this dissertation, Pulsed GTA and conventional GTA processes have been used for modifying the surfaces of HSLA steel plates of thickness 10 mm at various parameters. The variation of cross sectional hardness, width and penetration of bead, with different 1 value and frequency has been studied and analyzed. There is complete modification of plate by multipass TIG arc is studied and analyzed. It was found that Pulsed GTA is more advantageous over Conventional GTA process, as it leads to a higher increase in hardness, better wear resistance and a better control over process parameter.en_US
