The polarographic method is considered the most convenient and useful method to study the mechanism of redu ction of organic compounds, specially in the case of hetero cyclic and biologically active compounds. In fact, it is more often than not that electrochemical reduction is prefe rred to purely chemical reduction to study the kinetics and 1-k mechanism of heterocyclics. Numerous references are available in the existing literature to l^nd support to the above contention. The main point of divergence in this type of reduction and chemical reduction is that it is a hetero genous (solution solid interface at the mercury drop) reducte ion whereas the chemical reduction is homogenjous and therefore a comparison between the two can not be quite rigid. The former, however, has the extra advantage that it provides comparison to processes taking place in vivo in the animal cell.........................en_US
