dc.description.abstract | A computer program in visual basic has been developed for the determination of hardenability of steels using a mathematical model within the frame work of single. dimensional heat transfer equation, Avrami's equation and standard TTT curves. Parameters like k and n which are temperature dependent parameters used in the Avrami's equation have been calculated from the standard TTT curves of eutectoid; hypoeutectiod and hypereutectoid steels having 0.35, 0.54, 0.80, 0.10. and 1.13% carbon. these k and n values have been used to draw the TTT curve for any % carbon steel. From the TTT curve of a given % carbon steel, a cooling rate is identified that gives the temperature and time co-ordinate for 50% martensite. The above co-ordinate is then used in the solution of the signal dimension heat transfer equation, the solution of which is found using a computer program in VISUAL BASIC, for the determination of hardenability of steel. | en_US |
