In the present work effort has been made to study the friction and wear behaviour of TMA treated 2014 Al-alloy. On the basis of observations and analysis of the worn surfaces, the wear debris, friction co-efficient and wear mechanism in different region has been identified. Only steady state wear was observed at a constant applied load. 2014 Al-alloy has been given different thermo-mechanical treatments and the wear and friction behaviour under dry sliding condition has been studied using pin on disc wear testing machine at loads of 0.7, 1.7 and 2.7 Kg. constant sliding velocity of 1 m/s using eight time intervals. Wear of thermo-mechanically aged 2014 Al-alloy against steel under dry sliding condition has been analyzed in terms of microstructural characteristics of the worn samples and wear debris by using the SEM and X-ray Diffraction. The result shows that aluminium oxide is present in the debris. It is observed that different TMA treatments of 2014 Al-alloy (25 and 50 % preageing followed by 10 and 20 % deformation) improves the frictional and wear resistance properties.en_US
