Abstract: Sloshing is the dynamic behaviour of liquid in moving container. The slosh behaviour of liquid in a horizontally moving upright cylindrical container is studied experimentally. The container has rigid supports. The damping in a liquid system is enhanced through cloth membrane. The liquid considered is water. The membrane is under uniform tension in its plane. The membrane location and tension is varied arbitrarily. It is found that force and free surface displacement responses are considerably less as compared to the container without membrane. This is generally true for various aspect ratios i.e. liquid depth to container radius. It is also found that membrane with negligible tension, central hole and inclination with the horizontal provides sufficiently reduced. response as compared to the container without membrane.
