DEVELOPMENT OF A SOFTWARE FOR MATERIAL MANAGEMENT IN A WAREHOUSE

Abstract

Material Management is the basic part of any organisation that produces products or gives services of economic value. The main objective of the management is to minimise the expenditure of the organisation by controlling the system of the organisation for material ordering and handling. Now a days cost conscious organisation (manufacturing) needs to maintain minimum inventory level. So as to have minimum variable cost, which consists of holding and ordering cost, and to make efficient record system of the warehouse to avoid excess inventory, which for holding cost, and to avoid stock out which is the cause of barrier to production and stock out cost. MRP environment attemp is to maintain the optimum inventory level. This situation can he analysed by making appropriate study of lot sizing technique. The dissertation work reports on computer simulation of lot size of an item using different types of lot sizing techniques. A series of simulation tests were performed to examine the effectiveness of these lot sizing techniques. Based on the results obtained from the simulation run, several conclusions have been drawn. The additional organisation needs to incorporate fast record processing system for their warehouse to fasten their record system. A computer work of controlling warehouse record is more appropriate and fast in the recording and reporting system of the warehouse atmosphere. A software program is developed to handle the record system of the warehouse which gives fast access to reports for the management.
