dc.description.abstract | Rotating machines are often subjected to vibrations due to critical speeds, unbalance, and instability. A wide variety of bearings have been developed to tackle some of the different types of vibration problems. For instance if the bearing failed due to abnormal conditions, the design of bearing has to be done as early as possible to prevent economic losses. Now-a-days designing of bearings is frequently done through the use of design charts. The selection of performance parameters from the design charts is time consuming and also tedious, and also it requires the designer intelligence during its selection. If the selected parameters are not favourable to give stable conditions, the reselection parameters is required to be done until stable conditions exists. This study describes the development of design code systems (i.e. set of design expressions) for dynamic performance parameters data by the interpolation methods for plain cylindrical bearings and two axial-groove bearings of L/D ratios 0.5 and 1. Using these developed design code systems, the dynamic performance parameters are generated and the journal center motion trajectories have been drawn for above cases at different eccentricity. ratios. The developed software utilizes the design codes in such a way that the dynamic performance parameters are properly selected for any values of Sommerfeld number. Thus equation of motion was solved by fourth order Runge - Kutta method and the linear trajectories of journal center were drawn in transverse plane only. The time-displacement, time-fluid film force amplitude plots have also been drawn. | en_US |
